Types of Parrot Species

Macaw

One of the most popular types of parrot species is the macaw which comes in six different species. Any complete list of parrot species will have the macaw which lives in dense rainforests in the wild. Conures

True Parrots

Lovebirds

Lovebirds also belong to the complete list of parrot species and a family of nine species under the Agapornis genus group. Lovebirds are one of the thickest and biggest in the parrot family with its girths capable of reaching more than 15 centimeters. Lovebirds originated from Africa and are capable of living up to 15 years. Perhaps the most popular species of lovebirds are the Black cheeked and Fisher’s birds.

 

Cockatoos

The cockatoos are colored white and considered as great companion birds due to its sweet demeanor. Cockatoos are very sociable and can easily endear themselves to humans. The said breed likes to be held and cuddled by its owners.

Budgies

Another type of parrot specie is the budgies, a common name given to birds belonging to the Budgerigar species. An Australian native, the budgies are usually colored yellow and green. Its gentle and entertaining personality makes the budgies as one of the most preferred pets for the family, and they can go along well with children.

Parakeets

Similar to the budgie at least in personality are the Parakeets which are available in different colors. Parakeets are also originally from Australia and come in several other sub-types like the Monk, Brotogeris and Lineolated Parakeets.

Parrotlets

The parrotlets are considered the smallest in the family of parrots. The bird is one of the greatest bird mimics capable of imitating human words. Many pet lovers prefer keeping the parrotlet in their homes because of its sweet disposition and small frame.
