The Pionus Parrot and Eclectus Parrot Make Great Pets

The Pionus parrot makes a great pet and they are usually very quiet. They are not great talkers but their other qualities make up poor taling ability. They are content to sit around and play with their toys. The Eclectus parrot is known for being a great talker. They love to be petted and spend time with the family.

The Pionus parrot is beautiful, quiet, and sweet and loves attention.  They are also content entertaining themselves and they will need many great stimulating toys to keep them entertained.

They are not a demanding parrot like some but they do need human companionship.  Most of them love to perch outside of their cage.  They love to have their head scratched and they will sit next to you so you can do this.

If your parrot is hand fed and well socialized, he might be friendly to strangers.  If a Pionus parrot is not well socialized, it might be friendly to strangers.

When these parrots are frightened or excited they will wheeze and this normal behavior so do not worry, as nothing is wrong.

Exercise, play and a good diet are very important for a Pionus parrot.  Without these things, they tend to become overweight and will develop health problems.

Pi0onus parrots can talk but they do not have a large vocabulary.  The blue Headed and the Maximillan are the best talkers.  They will also mimic noises around the house.

Some Pionus parrots are louder than others are.  Spending time with your parrot and learning what makes him happy will help keep his voice down.

You must not let your parrot get bored.  You will need to give him many toys to attack and destroy.

The Blue headed Pionus does not get its full color until it is 1 to 2 years old.  These parrots are known for their gentle, guilt nature and are considered a great choice for a person’s first parrot.  They are great for people that live in apartments because they are not that noisy.

The Maximillan is a small to medium size stocky parrot.  They have bronze green feathers with a beautiful blue chest.  Their tail feathers are mostly green with blue on the edges.  They have bright red feathers under their tail feathers.  They make good first parrots and will be good for apartment living because they are not that noisy.

The Eclectus is beautiful and considered by many to be a good family pet. They are very playful in a graceful way and the male is much quieter than the female.

Many Eclectus parrot is known for being a good talker.  They will also mimic many sounds.  The more time you spend taking to your parrot the better chance you will have that he will be a good talker.  If you want a parrot with a large vocabulary, you might consider getting an older parrot that already talks.

Eclectus parrots can be very loud when they want to.  A well adjusted bird will sit and play most of the time.  They like to be petted and spend time sitting on you or playing with you.

Every Eclectus has a different temperament and there are no two alike.  Their human companion has to cater to what makes them happy because they will not cater to you.  If they are not well socialized the can be nippy.

You must not let your parrot get bored and you will need to provide him with plenty of toys for him to attack and some that he can destroy.

Your parrot needs a diet high in Beta Carotene and vegetable protein.  You will need to add fresh or dehydrated oranges, red, yellow and green vegetable, legumes and some organic fruit to his diet.  Your bird’s intake of seeds must be limited.  Never give your parrot alcohol, avocado or chocolate as they can kill him.  Do not feed him asparagus, eggplant, cabbage, caffeine products, junk food, milk, cream, raw potato and rhubarb.

Good quality pellets should make up no more than 30 to 40 percent of his diet.

You should provide your bird with bath water in the morning.  On warm days give him bath water in the evening also.  Only leave the evening bath water in the cage for 1 hour.  Get your bird a water bottle so he will have fresh clean water to drink at all times.  You must put water in a dish until your bird gets used to the water bottle.

Take good care of your parrot and he will be healthy and happy and give you years of enjoyment.

Either one of these parrots would be a great choice for you.

I loved reading about the parrots here. When I was a little girl, my neighbor had a parrot that was a very loud talker. When the milkman would drive down the street you could hear the parrot three houses away saying "here comes the comes the milkman"

I always wanted a Parrot. I wasn't sure if I had the patience to care for it properly. I am following you now. I look forward to reading more of your work. Tweeted.
